Talisman rig Claymore shut down following gas releases

A North Sea oil rig was shut down because there were fears not enough had been done to prevent an explosion, it has been revealed.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) served a prohibition notice on Talisman after a series of incidents on the Claymore platform.

It was shut down in August following gas releases.

Talisman told BBC Scotland that production on the platform resumed after complying with the notice.

Geoff Holmes, Talisman UK senior vice president, said: "Safety is always our number one priority.

"Any hydrocarbon release is unacceptable and our performance has clearly not met our own standards or those demanded by the HSE."

Jake Molloy, from the RMT union, said the scale of the problems was concerning.
